English carries the same weight as Bangla in the preliminary paper, but candidates lose marks here far more often. The paper splits roughly into language (grammar plus vocabulary) and literature, and the language half is far more predictable — which makes it the part worth securing first.
Grammar questions cluster around a small number of areas: parts of speech, tense and sequence of tenses, subject–verb agreement, prepositions and phrasal verbs, voice, narration, conditionals and correction of sentences. Working through these rule by rule, with examples, beats reading a grammar book cover to cover.
For literature, focus on periods, major authors, their landmark works and famous quotations. A compact chart of period → author → work → one memorable line covers most of what is asked.
